ROSELLE, Ill.—The M&R Companies release a video that showcases its newly streamlined parts department. Upgrades in the parts fulfillment department come as the latest development in major growth for the company, which includes anew headquarters in Roselle, Ill. in late 2015.

Changes in the department include adjustments like lower shelf heights for easier access to parts without ladders, as well as a flow pattern that ensures an order picker moves on a linear path.

“A parts picker never goes backwards,” explains Rich Hoffman, CEO of the M&R Companies, describing the flow pattern. Hoffman adds that the new layout and design of the parts picking department will allow the same number of employees to pick roughly 30 percent more parts per day.

In addition to design changes, technological improvements have been implemented. Devices like touchpads and scanners improve the accuracy of order picking while the integration of bar codes with product images and a paperless system improve overall efficiency.

“In most cases, about 85 percent of parts are shipped the day they’re ordered,” adds Hoffman. “Air freight orders placed by 3:00 p.m. CST are typically shipped the same day.”
