In an ideal world, every wrap installation job would be done in a clean, climate-controlled environment. But in many cases this is simply not realistic, whether it be the physical limitations of your shop or landing a job that will require onsite installation.
Each wrap vinyl manufacturer has their own installation parameters. Paying attention to these parameters and becoming familiar with the material(s) you are planning on installing is very important.
But no matter the type of film there are certain precautions that you should always take to avoid ending up with a faulty installation. Aside from knowing the characteristics of the film you’re working with, you should always take heed of the elements.

HAPs is an acronym that stands for Hazardous Air Pollutants. The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides a list of chemicals and classes of chemicals that fall under HAPs. If a solvent ink contains one or more of these listed chemicals, it contains HAPs. Ink manufacturers know that removing HAPs is important for both the environment and for the graphics industry.

What are graphic formats? What’s the difference between them, and how do you know which one to choose when saving an image? JPG, TIFF, EPS, PDF, GIF and PNG, are some common extensions at the end of a file name that represent how a digital image is encoded. Compression schemes found in each format offer key features that affect the efficiency of a file and sometimes even how an image appears.
There are essentially two types of compression schemes: lossless and lossy. Lossless compression algorithms preserve all of the binary information. When the image is saved and then reopened, there is no loss of image quality. Lossy compression algorithms, while efficiently reducing file size, may compromise image quality.
Here are descriptions of the most common graphic formats that are likely to be encountered in a normal graphics environment and when you might consider choosing them.

Shape and size are two elements of a sign never to be overlooked. Having the freedom to manipulate these elements allows sign makers to incorporate another level of creativity into their work. This is done with the technology of table cutters—automated X/Y cutters designed for cutting sheet materials.
These machines are used in high-volume productions, in three-dimensional sign work, to create special effects and more. As a result, sign shops can generate “new and exciting applications or enhance existing applications by adding shapes in today’s market,” says Keri Blackburn, Director of Marketing, North America, Esko. “Shops are no longer just print providers.”
Of course, digital prints are a large portion of the graphics industry but when a shop can take the printing aspect and add dimensionality and original contours, there can be much more appeal for the end user and an opportunity to cross into other markets. Beatrice Drury, director of marketing and communications at Zünd America Inc., points out that because of cutters’ capabilities, inroads have been made in packaging and fabrics “with no end in sight.”
Demand has increased for original sign work and cutters have provided an avenue to produce them.

Most of today’s magnetic printable substrates are created using a rubber-ferrite media with an ink-receptive top-layer. Printable magnetic material is available in both pre-cut sheets and rolls of various lengths. For many years, 24" was the widest available width, but a growing number of manufacturers now offer wider materials. One thing to keep in mind with wider media is that magnets are heavy. Some manufacturers offer those wider rolls in shorter lengths to keep the weight down. Make sure the roll-weight is not greater than what the printer’s feed/take-up system can handle.
