Printing done within industrial manufacturing processes has traditionally been dominated by analog methods, particularly screen printing. Inkjet is increasingly becoming part of the discussion, however. Beyond well-known commercial applications, such as signage and outdoor advertising, inkjet printing now commands the majority of the market for tile decoration. Almost all expiration dates and batch codes on beverage cans are inkjet printed. Inkjet is playing an increasing role in printing glass, packaging, flooring, laminates, and other home décor products.

As senior graphic designer at Roland DGA, one of my personal highlights each year is creating print samples to show-off the capabilities of our machines. We start these design and print projects by creating a pseudo print brand to showcase our specialty inks and features such as print/cut. Like everything at Roland DGA, this is a team effort and with the help of amazing freelance illustrators like Joe Diaz, these projects are always some of our most eye-catching and impressive.

Digital Printing and more specifically inkjet printing technology has made vast advances over the past two decades. We can comfortably say almost everyone in today’s world uses inkjet technology or comes across an inkjet printed product. It has made serious inroads into various printing applications, at times revolutionising the applications themselves staying true to its disruptive nature. Paper printing for home or office use, Graphics, Coding & Marking, Ceramics, Textile, Glass are some applications/industries where inkjet is competing with conventional process’s or has replaced the conventional process. Digital printing is becoming increasingly important as business’s are changing their strategies from mass production to mass customisation. However, digital print is only just beginning to infiltrate the packaging market and demonstrate its true potential for seamless and personalised advertising, both on and offline.

Industrial applications for inkjet are expanding rapidly – perhaps the most exciting developments in all of printing. The roots of these breakthroughs can be traced back further than you may think.

UV technology, both traditional UV and UV LED, offers a great many advantages for print service providers. Among them are many tangible benefits that allow shops to parlay greater flexibility, a wider array of capabilities and lower materials, energy and labor costs into new opportunities for profit.

Once you understand the output characteristics of your exposure unit and the peak absorption of the stencil system you wish to use, you can better gauge its compatibility. Figure 9 shows the typical absorption curves for the three types of stencil systems (Red: Acrylate sensitizer – Combined with diazo in dual cure emulsions; Blue: Diazo – Alone in single cure emulsions; Green: SBQ – Photopolymer emulsions.) Provided that an exposure system generates sufficient energy at the wavelengths where the stencil systems are reactive, the crosslinking necessary to harden the stencil will take place.

From May 1 to October 31, visitors can experience everything from Austrian measures to increase air purity to the joys of the Greek diet, across a 11.8-million-square-foot exhibition area.

For most people, the increasingly widespread availability of in-flight wifi makes for a more enjoyable, convenient travel experience. But for Valencia, California-based industrial screen-printing specialistDiversified Images, it means business.
