CARLSTADT, N.J.—Pantone Color Institute releases the Spring 2018 edition of its Fashion Color Report for New York Fashion Week. Published by Pantone for the fashion industry, the institute says it expects to see the featured colors “on the runway for the upcoming spring collections.”

Which embellishment process makes the most sense for your business?

How do I adjust midtones on a complicated design so the print will look good? This was a question posed by a Printwear reader, and here is Kieth Stevens’ response:

“Screen printing is a dinosaur.” I heard those words in 2007 when I bought my first direct-to-garment (DTG) printer from the production manager of one of the largest screen-printing shops in the country.
While there have been some amazing screen-printing advancements in recent years, the discipline has its limitations in the modern garment-decoration world. I’m not saying screen printing is dead, because it’s not. High volume, speed, quality and versatility all have assured screen printing’s permanent place in garment decoration.
But DTG printing offers a flexibility and diversity that every modern print shop needs to remain competitive.

One drop of ink, one misplaced thumbprint, one pinhole can ruin a T-shirt and cost you money. A spot-cleaning gun can save the shirt and your production run. Besides the gun, a device with a screen and exhaust (commonly sold with spot-cleaning guns) will help to hold the shirt in place and to dry the spot-cleaned area of the garment quickly. 

We’ve received numerous inquiries from customers regarding the Ryonet White. “Ryonet White” was manufactured by International Coatings. Amongst the inquiries, we’ve recently received one from a veteran screen printer of 25 years, JJ.

There are some cap companies that offer a program where they will send you the unsewn front piece of the cap, so that it can be screen printed and sent back to them for finishing. If using this route, be sure to allow enough time for the fabrication of the caps after the printed fabric pieces have been sent.

A fun project you can tackle with your DTG is to brand your own line of shirts. Removing the existing label and printing your own custom logo or your customer’s logo in its place can give shirts that special touch.
