The Digital Eye: Designing and Printing Banners

Banners are certainly a way of life in the print world. It’s helpful to know what design techniques work best in assembling long or tall formatted images. The horizontal banner is very likely the first thing a visitor sees when walking into a store. The banner sets the tone and ambiance of a space and impresses the viewer immediately by the quality of its design, and the impact of its graphics. The banner can also inform the viewer the name of the place, company or product. It may display a corporate logo, incorporate high impact photography or art and usually has some descriptive text. That's a lot to ask of a skinny piece of vinyl!

Let’s Talk Shop: Fleet Account Management

Let’s Talk Shop: Fleet Account Management

When I think about the sign suppliers that I order materials from one of the biggest factors is customer service. While pricing is of course kept in mind, it's the ease of ordering, the follow up on any special requests and the account management we receive from the sales reps that visit us.

Customer service, and being made to feel important, is a big part of all repeat experiences. For example, we'll return to a restaurant if it has exceptional service even if the prices are a little higher than another restaurant. We shop at Costco because they sell quality merchandise, keep track of our purchases and make returns really easy.

So what does all this have to do with selling vehicle graphics? Everything, actually.

My point is that good customer service and making your clients feel as important as they really are, is what keeps them coming back to you. One vehicle turns into two, which turns into a fleet over time. In this article we'll discuss some easy ways to improve your fleet account management before, during and after the vehicles are at your shop.

Product Weathering Becomes Visual

Product Weathering Becomes Visual

Gamut-based Image Predictor

Most of the work done in weathering inks and media for screen printing has revolved around the printing of spot or solid colors. This was appropriate for sign painting, but it is less than adequate for modern full color images. Most printed images today are reproduced with CMYK inks. It is uncommon for a full-color image today to have large solid areas of just C, M or Y. We do know that when we weather a tonal ramp with the different dot percentages of C, M, Y or K, that the lighter tones will degrade much faster than the solid areas. Most full-color images have a near infinite number of colors trapping each other in varying degrees. We know that the magenta and yellow degrade much faster than the cyan and black. All this combined means that traditional solid color weathering is not applicable to process color images.
